“Still Willing To Work On It…” Mark Hendry Claims Celtic Remain Locked In Talks To Sign South American Star

Celtic are still in negotiations with Lanus to sign left-back Alexandro Bernabei, according to Football Scotland‘s Deputy Editor Mark Hendry.

Reports in Argentina at the weekend revealed that Lanus had rejected an opening bid from the Hoops for the defender but, when asked about the state of play on Twitter, Hendry says a deal remains a possibility:

It is believed that Lanus are willing to sell Bernabei for the right price, although it isn’t clear what valuation the Argentinian club have put on the player.

The 21-year-old appears to be Celtic’s number one target to provide competition for Greg Taylor on the left-hand side of defence. Other names, including Velez Sarsfield’s Francisco Ortega, Hammarby’s Mohanad Jeahze and AIK Solna’s Erick Otieno have been linked in recent weeks but it looks as though manager Ange Postecoglou has identified Bernabei as his preferred option.

Considering the Scottish champions should be well placed financially, with Champions League group stage prize money in the bag, you would expect them to reach a compromise with Lanus over a transfer fee.
