Stuart Pearce Explains Why Key Celtic Man Should Snub Premier League Interest And “Stay” At Parkhead

Ex-England defender Stuart Pearce has backed Ange Postecoglou to remain in the Celtic hot seat and reject offers from Premier League clubs.

Tottenham are the latest team to be linked with the Australian, while the likes of Leicester, Everton, Wolves and Leeds have also been mentioned as possible destinations previously. However, Pearce, who was West Ham assistant manager until the start of this season, says there is no reason for him to leave Scotland:

“At West Ham, we played against them when he first walked in and we won 6-2 up at Celtic in a pre-season friendly and, quite often, when you meet someone for the first time when their team’s just been beaten it gives you a decent slant of what they’re like as people. He came across as very humble, very genuine, and I’m delighted to see him doing particularly well. There’s this clamour to get to the Premier League but if you’re enjoying where you’re working – and he clearly seems to be at Celtic – then why not stay where you’re enjoying your work?”

Pearce is bang on the money with his remarks. As long as Postecoglou is winning titles with the Hoops and he is seeing progression year on year, there isn’t any real motivation to move south of the border unless it is a team challenging at the top of the table.

At Celtic, with the title all but sewn up, he will be competing in the Champions League group stages next season, which isn’t something he could do with the English clubs mentioned, with the possible exception of Spurs. With that in mind, Postecoglou is well within his rights to turn down Premier League interest.
