Sutton Backs Celtic Boss To Succeed Where Mourinho And Conte Failed If He Ends Up Taking PL Job

Celtic legend Chris Sutton says Ange Postecoglou would back himself to succeed at Tottenham if he decides to leave the Hoops for the English Premier League side.

While Sutton admits it would be extremely disappointing to see the Australian move away from Glasgow, he thinks the 57-year-old has what it takes to make an impact at Spurs:

“Celtic fans are right to be concerned. I know Spurs have their issues but this is not a club struggling at the foot of the division in danger of relegation. Even after an apparently disastrous campaign, they have still been in the running for the Champions League places.”

“When you look at the stadium and the finances, there is huge potential. There’s been problems, of course. Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte – two of the best managers in the world – couldn’t crack it at Spurs. But watching Postecoglou, he will have the self-confidence and belief he could be a success there.”

As Sutton mentions, both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, who won Premier League titles with Chelsea, had poor spells in charge of Tottenham so it isn’t a job without risks attached to it.

Especially with Daniel Levy at the helm, Postecoglou may be asked to do his job with one arm tied behind his back, such as the chairman’s reputation for limiting the powers of his manager.

Tottenham may not be the right fit for Postecoglou

There are plenty of alarm bells regarding Spurs. They have struggled to find a permanent replacement for Conte, with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Arne Slot having withdrawn their interest in the job.

Arguably, Postecoglou could be better off staying with Celtic. If the Hoops impress in next season’s Champions League, his stock could rise even higher which may open up avenues to join even more prestigious clubs than Tottenham.
