Sutton Labels Rangers Statement ‘Embarrassing’ As Old Firm Rivals’ Resolution Fails

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has questioned the thinking behind the Rangers’ failed proposal to have prize money handed out without the season being completed.

The Gers tried to table a rival resolution to the one proposed by the SPFL, only for it to be deemed not competent by legal advisors.

Rangers released an angry statement after it was rejected, and Sutton believes it was a desperate attempt by Celtic’s Old Firm rivals to avoid a decision:

“And then we move on to the Rangers statement. Come on, it’s embarrassing really. So Rangers want the prize money, they want it here, they want it now. But they don’t want the season to be called? That’s crazy stuff, isn’t it?”

With the votes having been cast on the SPFL resolution, there is still one team, Dundee, who have yet to make up their mind. Eight of the Championship clubs need to vote in favour for the motion to pass. At the moment, only seven teams have, so they do have a decisive vote.

Dundee had reportedly been against the proposal but have refrained from putting in their vote. They now have 28 days to make their final decision.
