Sutton Makes Comparison To 25M Arsenal Star As He Assesses In Demand Celtic Player’s Asking Price

Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton thinks his former club “should aim high” when they set Josip Juranovic‘s asking price.

After helping Croatia to the semi-finals of the World Cup, the 27-year-old is in demand, with reports linking the player with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham. Sutton believes that the Hoops should use the sale of Kieran Tierney to Arsenal as a benchmark for Juranovic’s valuation:

“I’m not comparing them as players, but Kieran Tierney, a full-back, left Celtic to join Arsenal for £25m. Yes, Kieran was younger, but Juranovic is now going to have a World Cup semi-final on his CV. He and Croatia might even win the tournament.”

“Juranovic is a first-pick for a country who are consistently high performers at major tournaments and in major competitions. Given the position of it being mid-season, given the fact Juranovic will just have come off a starring role at a World Cup and given the fact Celtic do not need to sell, they should aim high.”

Celtic do have a lot going in their favour when it comes to demanding a big fee for Juranovic. His contract expires in 2026 so the Scottish champions are well protected on that front. They have already signed a replacement in Alistair Johnston so they don’t have to rush into selling the Croatian international.

On top of that, the fullback has been one of the standout performers for his country in Qatar so they should be able to play off interested parties against each other in order to get the fee they want.
