Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes Vakoun Issouf Bayo is not a player that manager Neil Lennon can trust to start in big games for the club.
The TV pundit and newspaper columnist says there is no doubt that Bayo is a talented player, but he remains an inconsistent performer and cannot be relied upon to score goals:
“It’s a tricky one with Vakoun Issouf Bayo as well. He looks like the kind of player who could score a goal of the season contender one minute and then produce a miss of the season the next.”
“He’s still very raw and very much a work in progress. There’s no way he’s at the stage where Lennon can hang his hat on him in a big game.”
At 22 years of age, Bayo is a year older than Odsonne Edouard but it does seem that the Ivorian is behind his teammate in his development.
With Leigh Griffiths having also had his fitness issues over the past few months, it means the Hoops are having to rely heavily on Edouard to get the goals.
Whether Bayo can take some of the load off the Frenchman in the coming weeks, we shall have to wait and see. His goal and assist in the League Cup win over Partick Thistle last month should have done him some good and hopefully he can kick on from there.
