Sutton Urges Celtic To “Go Out And Buy” Swiss Star Despite Howler

Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton has backed his former club to sign Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist on a free transfer this summer.

The Swiss shot-stopper is out of contract at the end of the season, and Sutton thinks he would be an excellent number two for Joe Hart:

“If I’m Celtic, I go out and buy him at the end of the season as backup. I really like him, he’s had a number of seasons at Dundee United now. I think he is a brilliant goalkeeper.”

Siegrist didn’t exactly impress when he came up against the Hoops in the Scottish Cup quarter-final at the weekend. His fumble led to Giorgos Giakoumakis scoring the second in the 3-0 win at Tannadice.

It should be pointed out that it was a rare lapse of concentration from the 30-year-old but it doesn’t exactly paint in him in a good light, especially after receiving such a ringing endorsement from Sutton.

Over the past few months, Siegrist has actually been linked more with Glasgow rivals Rangers, with Allan McGregor expected to retire in the summer, so we shall see who he ends up joining.
