‘There Are No Deals’ Journalist Dismisses Reports That Celtic Have Agreed 7.2M Transfer

Celtic have not agreed a deal to sign Trabzonspor striker Caleb Ekuban, according to Turkish journalist Gokmen Ozcan.

There had been claims in the local media that the Hoops had tabled an €8m (£7.2m) bid for the Ghanaian international and that a medical had already been booked. However, Ozcan has dismissed the story:

“Ekuban is staying at Trabzonspor. There are no deals with Celtic or any club. Manager Eddie Newton and the administration also want Eku to stay. The plan of the Ghanaian striker is in this direction.”

After snapping up Albian Ajeti from West Ham for £4.5m, Celtic are highly unlikely to be in the market for another striker. In addition to the Swiss international, manager Neil Lennon has Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Patryk Klimala at his disposal.

The only way a move for Ekuban would make sense is if the Scottish champions were anticipating Edouard’s sale. There has been some talk that Aston Villa were lining up a £30m offer for the Frenchman but it is thought that the forward would not be interested in a move to the English Premier League outfit anyway.
