Norwich City will demand in excess of £3m for Adam Idah if Celtic want to make his loan deal permanent in the summer, according to the Irish Mirror (via TBRFootball).
The Republic of Ireland international joined the Hoops on transfer deadline day at the start of this month, as the Scottish champions looked to reinforce their options up front.
With Kyogo Furuhashi struggling for goals, and Oh Hyeon-gyu away with South Korea at the Asian Cup, Idah was brought in to give manager Brendan Rodgers some added firepower.
The jury is very much still out on whether the 22-year-old is good enough to play at the highest level with pundits, including Chris Sutton, uncertain that he has the required quality.
What has Sutton said about the Celtic loanee?
Just before Idah‘s arrival, the Sky Sports pundit gave a less-than-glowing assessment of the forward’s abilities. Taking to X, he said:
“If this is true I’m not sure with the greatest respect it’s an upgrade on Oh. Idah needs to get away from Norwich and has potential but has had potential for years but he’s 100% in the development category and a long way from the finished article.”
Norwich is one of Sutton’s former clubs so he does know more than most about Idah, and his comments are rather concerning.
Rodgers is much more positive about Idah’s potential
In contrast to Sutton, manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that the 22-year-old possesses all the tools to be a top-class player. Speaking ahead of the game against Hibernian last night, he said:
“If I can unlock the talent he has then this is a boy that can be a top-level striker. He’s not just a boy where, even if you max out everything, he can only get to a certain level. This is everything – this is 6ft 2in, power, speed.”
