Celtic will have to fight off interest from three Premier League clubs to keep hold of Cameron Carter-Vickers this month, according to SBI Soccer.

The American website claims that a “source close to the player” has revealed that West Ham, Brentford and Nottingham Forest are all keen on securing the defender’s signature.

Carter-Vickers has become a key player for the Hoops, winning 5 domestic trophies in his first 2 years at the club.

The centre-back was originally signed on loan from Tottenham in 2021 before he made the switch to Glasgow permanently for £6m a year later.

During his time in Scotland, Carter-Vickers has been one of Celtic’s most consistent performers, having also been named in the Scottish PFA Team of the Year on two successive occasions, as well as being nominated for the Player of the Year award.

Would Celtic consider a sale?

On the face of it, selling one of Celtic’s best players midway through the season wouldn’t seem like the smartest of moves but there are some other factors to consider.

Carter-Vickers has been suffering from issues since having a knee operation last summer. It has meant that he has had to manage his fitness throughout the course of the campaign. He is currently sidelined in the hope of getting 100% fit.

If Celtic do receive an offer that is above the £6m they paid for the centre-back, his injury record may become a factor in whether the club accepts the proposal.

There is no certainty that clubs will firm up their interest in Carter-Vickers

It should be pointed out that Nottingham Forest have recently been charged with breaches of Financial Fair Play, while West Ham’s transfer budget is thought to be limited as well.

For that reason, there is no guarantee that Carter-Vickers will be the subject of bids during the January transfer window.
