19 Cap International Given ‘Green Light’ To Leave United With Celtic And TEN Other Clubs Lining Up Offers

Celtic are among the teams interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to 90min.com.

The Dutchman is set to leave Old Trafford this summer with the Red Devils having “green-lit” his potential departure.

There are, however, a number of clubs pursuing van de Beek’s signature, in addition to Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Three Premier League sides (Wolves, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest), three Serie A teams (AC Milan, Inter Milan and Roma), as well as clubs in France (Nice), Spain (Sevilla) and the Netherlands (Ajax and Feyenoord), are all looking to secure the player’s services.

Due to the competition for van de Beek, it is unlikely that the Hoops will be favourites to sign the midfielder but they can offer something that most teams cannot; Champions League football

Wages are likely to be a big stumbling block.

According to Capology, van de Beek is currently earning £120,000 a week at United, which is not a salary that Celtic could come close to matching.

For that reason, the 19 cap Netherlands international is unlikely to make the move to Parkhead, unless he is prepared to take a significant pay cut.

Celtic are not exactly short of options in midfield

It should also be pointed out that the Scottish champions have six central midfielders at the club, even after Aaron Mooy retired.

Captain Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley are the first-choice midfield trio, while Tomoki Iwata, David Turnbull and Odin Thiago Holm are in the first-team squad.

Signing another midfielder may not be top of the agenda currently but that could change. There have been some recent rumours about O’Riley’s future, with reports suggesting that three La Liga teams are weighing up moves for him. Valencia, Sevilla and Real Betis are all targeting the Danish Under 21 international, with the latter said to be serious about making a bid.
