“Could Be A Possibility…” £35M Midfielder Refuses To Rule Out Potential Celtic Transfer

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek says he is keeping his options open after being linked with a move to Celtic.

The Dutchman scored the winner for the Red Devils in a friendly against Lyon at Murrayfield on Wednesday and, when he was asked about a possible transfer to the Scottish champions, he replied:

“I’ve been linked with so many clubs, you know how it is. Most of the time things are not true. Let’s see about my future. I don’t know, I’m not focussing on that. Everything is open. I’m really proud to wear this shirt and I realise that every day. I will push and then let’s see what happens. A move away from the club could be a possibility. Let’s see. I’ve just come back from an injury and I think I have other things to focus on.”

It was reported last week that van de Beek will be made available for transfer, with the Hoops among eleven clubs interested in securing the player’s services.

Wolves, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma, Nice, Sevilla, Ajax and Feyenoord have also been credited with an interest in the 26-year-old.

The cost of the deal could be a concern for Celtic

United paid Ajax an initial £35m for van de Beek so a permanent deal is out of the question. It is believed the Red Devils may be prepared to loan the player but the Hoops would still have to pay a significant amount to get him in through the door.

A loan fee would probably be expected, while a portion of van de Beek’s £120,000 a week salary would have to be paid as well.

When you also factor in the fierce competition for van de Beek’s signature, it certainly won’t be an easy deal to pull off. Fans are probably wise not to get their hopes up about this one.
