‘Not Of Interest…’ Report Reveals European Heavyweights Won’t Make Bid For £6.4M Rated Celtic Ace

Celtic winger Liel Abada is “not of interest” to Sporting Lisbon, according to Record.

The Portuguese tabloid was reacting to claims made by Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas that the Portuguese side (along with Ajax) were weighing up bids for the Israeli international.

Abada was being tipped as a potential replacement for Marcus Edwards, who could leave Sporting this summer, but Sporting are not believed to be considering an offer for the player.

It remains to be seen whether the links to Ajax will also be debunked but, for the time being, the €7.5m (£6.4m) rated winger will be staying at Celtic Park.

Abada’s contract situation remains a concern

Trusted journalist Stephen McGowan reported back in March that negotiations over a contract extension between Abada and the Hoops had stalled.

It prompted speculation about his future with McGowan going on to claim that the Israeli could be the subject of a £10m bid from Southampton in the summer.

However, with the Saints having been relegated from the Premier League, those links faded, but Abada’s contract situation remains unresolved. With the club having sold both Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis when they failed to sign new deals, there is a feeling that Abada could still be allowed to leave if the right offer comes along.

Celtic may change their stance after Jota’s departure

Following Jota’s surprise move to Saudi Arabia, the Scottish champions may be more reluctant to sell another winger.

While the Hoops have already brought in Marco Tilio, the Australian is untested in Scottish football, so you would have thought that keeping Abada in the squad is the most sensible move. Manager Brendan Rodgers, in particular, will be hoping to keep this team together, and allowing someone else to leave right after losing Jota would certainly not be in his plans.
