Celtic transfer target Ugurcan Cakir has expressed his desire to stay at Trabzonspor beyond the end of the season.
It was reported in the Turkish media last month that the goalkeeper had been shortlisted as a potential replacement for current no.1 Joe Hart, who is retiring at the end of the season. However, when speaking about his future, Cakir said that he is happy to remain where he is:
“I have been a Trabzonspor fan since my childhood, my father instilled this love in us. After spending a certain period of time in the youth structure, I was promoted to the senior team.”
“I lifted 4 trophies. For me, it’s an incredible feeling to win a trophy at the club I am a fan of. I’ve always been proud of that. It’s a great and honourable feeling to be the captain of this team. Playing for Trabzonspor was already my dream as a child. It gives great pride to me, my family and my loved ones.”

Following links with the Scottish champions, it was subsequently reported that Trabzonspor may demand as much as £7.5m for their captain.
Considering that the Hoops will not be able to raise any funds from Hart’s departure, it seems unlikely that the club would have the resources to invest so much in recruiting his replacement.
Who are the other options to succeed Hart?
It was reported earlier this week that Celtic are considering a move for RKC Waalwijk keeper Etienne Vaessen. One of the reasons why the 28-year-old is seen as a more realistic target than Cakir is because his contract expires at the end of the season.
Considering how frugal the Hoops can be, it would not be a surprise if they opted for the cheaper option and pursued Vaessen on a free transfer instead.
