Journalist Makes £20M Transfer Claim After Celtic Are Linked With 51 Cap International Midfielder

Leicester City have slapped a £20m asking price on Celtic target Wilfred Ndidi, according to the Daily Mail reporter Tomo Collomosse.

Despite the midfielder having less than a year left on his contract, the journalist says the Foxes won’t let the player leave on the cheap:

Manager Brendan Rodgers is clearly a fan of Ndidi, having worked with him closely for four years during his spell in charge of Leicester.

The 26-year-old has made nearly 200 Premier League appearances across seven seasons, and he has also been capped 51 times by his country Nigeria.

However, even for a player of his experience, you can’t see Celtic making a bid close to his current price tag. It would be over double the amount of their current transfer record, which has stood at £10m since 2018 when they signed Odsonne Edouard from Paris Saint-Germain.

Celtic may still keep an eye on Ndidi

It will be interesting to see what Leicester do if they can’t sell Ndidi before the transfer window closes. They may have to lower their demands significantly to prevent him from leaving for nothing at the end of next season.

If they don’t, the Nigeran international could sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in a matter of months. In that situation, the Hoops may have a small chance of recruiting the player but, even then, they will be competing with other teams who can offer much higher salaries.

For the time being, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up that Ndidi will make the switch to Glasgow, either this summer or if he becomes available on a free.
