“A Lot Of This Mess…” Sutton Launches Attack On Former Celtic Manager Following Leverkusen Drubbing

BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has blamed former Celtic manager Neil Lennon for the current state of the club.

The ex-Hoops boss was a pundit as the Scottish club were thrashed 4-0 at home by Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday and he criticised Ange Postecoglou side’s poor defending.

However, Sutton believes the finger for the team’s current plight should not be pointed at Postecoglou, who he says is still trying to fix some of the problems that Lennon left behind:

“I understand the criticism and we’re here to analyse the style of play. But a lot of this mess was on Neil, and that’s just the way it was. It’s like somebody dumping a big lorryload of horse manure on your front garden, moving out next door and then complaining about the smell.”

“The bottom line is, this guy needs time. In a year, if Celtic are getting pumped in Europe with kamikaze defending then it’s going to be an issue. At this moment in time, Ange Postecoglou needs backing.”

It is quite surprising to see Sutton being so critical of his former teammate. It wasn’t too long ago that the former striker was defending Lennon but things have changed quite drastically over the past year.

While Postecoglou can be absolved for some of the issues facing the club, losing so comprehensively at home in a European game is still pretty embarrassing and the Australian has to turn around the situation as quickly as possible.
