Charlie Nicholas Believes It May Only Take Two Games For Celtic Fans To Turn On Postecoglou

Former Celtic player Charlie Nicholas claims poor results against Bayer Leverkusen and Aberdeen could lead to supporters questioning Ange Postecoglou’s future in the job.

It has been a rough start to the 56-year-old’s tenure in charge, having picked up only 10 points from seven league matches so far, and Nicholas says that, while his job is not under threat, it won’t be long before there is fan unrest:

“The responsibility for things on the pitch should lie at the manager’s door. This manager is on the edge. Thursday against Bayer Leverkusen is not going to help him and if they were to lose in Aberdeen then I think a lot of the fans would turn…”

“I think it is a gigantic week for Celtic and if they don’t get results Ange won’t be sacked but the pressure will grow on the board. It is the biggest week in probably the last 10 years or even longer.”

Whether there will actually be any genuine questions about Postecoglou’s position if the Hoops do lose their next two matches, it is unlikely, but things will need to improve soon.

There is no doubt that the Australian has been handed an extremely bad deal. The mess left by previous manager Neil Lennon meant a significant overhaul of the playing squad was needed and new players need time to gel together.

On top of that, an injury crisis has meant Postecoglou has been left without a number of key personnel, so it is hard to judge the man in charge too harshly considering the difficult situation he finds himself in.
