Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish has singled out Matt O’Riley for praise after his debut performance against Hearts in the 2-1 win last week.
The 21-year-old had only just signed for the club before he was thrust into the starting lineup by manager Ange Postecoglou due to a lack of other options in the squad. The midfielder did not disappoint as he created the Hoops’ winner for Giorgos Giakoumakis. Dalglish was suitably impressed with the young Englishman:
“New signing Matt O’Riley looks a proper player.”
It wasn’t just O’Riley’s assist that was eye-catching. He created a number of other chances for his teammates, whilst looking comfortable in possession in a hostile atmosphere at Tynecastle.
The midfielder’s display against Dundee United was equally impressive. He had no less than three separate chances to get on the scoresheet yesterday afternoon; one of which was a gilt-edged opportunity. Nonetheless, he has settled into the team much quicker than anyone anticipated following his arrival from MK Dons for £1.5m.
