Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton says he cannot understand why Cameron Carter-Vickers was not nominated for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award.

The centre-back’s teammates, Callum McGregor and Tom Rogic, were among the nominees, along with Ross County’s Regan Charles-Cook and Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon. However, Sutton has been left perplexed by Carter-Vickers’s omission:

“Quite how he did not make the shortlist for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year Award is beyond me. He has been immense for Postecoglou.”

As Sutton says, it is a very strange decision by the members of the PFA. Carter-Vickers has been outstanding since arriving from Tottenham on loan, and he does deserve recognition for his performances. The Scottish Football Writers’ Association’ have nominated the American international for their award, at least, which is something.

The Hoops will, undoubtedly, be desperate to keep the defender on a permanent basis, and reports have suggested that the Scottish club will take up their option to buy the player. It is believed that he will cost an initial £6m, with the potential for the fee to go as high as £10m.
