Celtic are keen on recruiting AZ Alkmaar midfielder Adam Maher on a free transfer, according to reports in the Dutch media.

The 25-year-old is out of contract this summer and will leave his club on a free transfer in July. The Hoops will, though, have competition if they want to sign the Dutchman.

English Championship clubs QPR and Blackburn Rovers, along with Vitesse Arnhem, Fenerbahce and Brescia are also reportedly interested.

Maher hasn’t been in the best form for AZ this season, having scored just two goals and contributed five assists in 29 matches.

However, he has been capped five times by the Netherlands at senior level with his last appearance coming in a World Cup qualifier against Andorra back in 2013.

Maher also has experience of the top level in club football after having played in the Champions League for PSV Eindhoven during his four year stint with the Dutch heavyweights.
