Celtic Involved In Three Club Battle To Sign Croatian Under 21 Star

Celtic, Watford and Leeds are all interested in Benfica centre-back Branimir Kalaica, according to reports in the UK.

Following the departure of Jozo Simunovic on a free transfer, the Hoops are actively looking for a replacement, and it appears they are keen on landing another Croatian as his successor.

Kalaica has impressed at Under 21 level for his country, playing at last summer’s European Championships, but he has not had much experience of playing at a high level, having played for Benfica’s B team in the Portuguese second division over the past four seasons.

Since moving to Portugal from Dinamo Zagreb in 2016, the defender has actually made just one appearance for the first team, coming against Boavista in May 2017; a match in which he scored in.

Benfica do, though, rate Kalaica highly but the player is reportedly looking to move on, with a switch to the UK seen as an attractive option.
