Celtic Miss Out As Croatian International Makes Shock 1.7M Transfer

Kristijan Lovric has joined Nk Osijek after leaving fellow Croatian First Football League outfit HNK Gorica.

The winger, who was heavily linked with a move to Celtic in the summer, officially signed for Osijek earlier this week for a transfer fee in the region of €2m (£1.7m) plus add-ons.

Lovric had less than eighteen months remaining on his contract at Gorica but it is still a surprise to see the player, who is a Croatian international, move clubs for such a small amount.

Whether Celtic were actually still tracking him, it is doubtful. Lovric generally plays off the left-wing, which is a position favoured by the likes of Jota and Daizen Maeda.

While there is a slight possibility that Lovric could have been considered as a possible replacement for Jota, if the Portuguese winger decided to return to Benfica after his loan spell ended in the summer, there are plenty of other options in the first team squad who could fulfil the same role anyway.
