Celtic, Rangers, Chelsea, Leeds And Wolves Set To Miss Out As Newcastle Starlet Makes Contract Decision

Newcastle midfielder Joe White has decided to sign a new contract with the English Premier League club, according to reports in England.

Celtic and Rangers were said to be ready to make a move for the 19-year-old, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

The likes of Chelsea, Leeds and Wolves were also reportedly keeping tabs on White but the England youth international has decided to remain in the North East.

Whether the Hoops were ever close to signing the teenager, we’ll probably never know, but Ange Postecoglou’s side would have only had to pay around £300,000 to sign him due to cross-border rules.

Celtic do have a history when it comes to signing young players from England, with Moussa Dembele the most notable example when the club snapped him up from Fulham in 2016.

In more recent years, the likes of Jeremie Frimpong and Sheffield Wednesday pair Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide have also been signed on the cheap.
