Celtic are expected to hand over £645,000 from the sale of Giorgos Giakoumakis to his previous club VVV Venlo, according to reports in the Netherlands.
The 28-year-old’s move to Atlanta United is expected to be made official soon with the MLS Side set to pay the Hoops around £4.3m for the striker.
However, as part of the deal that saw Giakoumakis join Ange Postecoglou‘s side eighteen months ago, VVV are said to be owed 15% of any future transfer.
Considering the forward cost £2.5m at the time, it means that Celtic have only made a very slight profit (approximately £1.1m) from selling him to Atlanta.
Fans will be disappointed with the way things ended for Giakoumakis at the Scottish champions. The Greek international’s goals-to-games ratio was pretty impressive, as he managed to score one in every two appearances (on average) despite not always being a regular starter.
Ultimately, though, the failure to agree a pay rise with the player was the deciding factor in his decision to leave Scotland.
