Celtic’s Number One Managerial Target Backed To Take On Tottenham Role

Ex-Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes his former club should consider Eddie Howe as a possible replacement for Jose Mourinho.

The former Bournemouth manager has been in negotiations to take the job at Celtic for a number of weeks but Bent feels Spurs would be wise to appoint him as their new head coach instead:

“I like the way he plays football and he did a fantastic job at Bournemouth. He’s available. Spurs did the Mauricio Pochettino thing where he rebuilt the club, got them playing really exciting football and got them to a Champions League final. But then they got to that four/five-year cycle where I think if Daniel Levy had invested a little bit more I think Spurs could’ve gone on…”

“They need to start again. When I say start again I mean play that brand of exciting football and get someone who’s really hands-on coaching-wise. I would really like Eddie Howe to get the Spurs job.”

Howe is very much a rank outsider for the Tottenham job. Most bookmakers have priced him between 10/1 and 20/1, which are pretty long odds, with at least eight other candidates who are considered to be likelier appointments.

Ajax’s Erik ten Hag is currently the favourite, with former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers having seemingly ruled himself out of the race.

In terms of Howe’s future, there are still major doubts over whether he will take on the Celtic job, with the most recent reports claiming there are disputes over his backroom staff and the appointment of a Director of Football.
