Journalist Claims Celtic Trail Serie A Side In Battle To Sign Ex AC Milan Star

Celtic and Shanghai Shenhua are both trailing newly-promoted Serie A club Venezia in the race to snap up Rennes striker M’Baye Niang, according to Foot Mercato journalist Sebastien Denis.

The former AC Milan player is deemed surplus to requirements by his club after spending the second half of last season out on loan at Al-Ahli. The Saudi Arabian side had a purchase option on the 26-year-old but decided against buying him after he failed to find the back of the net during his time with the club.

Niang is a Senegalese international and has played over 100 games in both the Italian and French top flights over the course of his senior career.

It is likely that the forward is being eyed as a potential replacement for Odsonne Edouard. The 23-year-old has less than a year left on his contract at Celtic Park and he has been linked with a move to English club Crystal Palace in recent days.
