Lennon Confirms Celtic Ace Will Feature Against Cluj Following Cup Final Snub

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed that Leigh Griffiths will feature against Cluj in the Europa League group game on Thursday.

Despite being fit since the last international break, the 29-year-old has not been selected to start, and wasn’t even on the bench for the 1-0 win against Rangers in the League Cup final at the weekend.

Lennon says Griffiths would have been on the bench on Sunday if Odsonne Edouard had been fit enough to play at Hampden Park:

“Griff probably would’ve been in the squad on Sunday but our plans altered when Odsonne Edouard called off and said he couldn’t start the game – otherwise he would have started and Griff would’ve been on the bench.”

“But when Odsonne didn’t feel comfortable, Leigh missed out but he and Bayo will be involved in Cluj.”

With Vakoun Issouf Bayo also set to feature, then, it remains to be seen which one out of the two will be handed a start in Romania later this week.

Both players are in desperate need of game time. Bayo has not made an appearance since October due to a troublesome knee injury and that may mean Griffiths is given the nod ahead of the Ivorian, based purely on fitness grounds.
