McAvennie Makes Big Prediction About Celtic’s January Transfer Plans

Ex-Celtic player Frank McAvennie predicts that his former club will spend when the transfer window reopens in January.

Manager Ange Postecoglou brought in 11 players during the summer but the Australian has already stated that plans are afoot to bring in more signings next year, and McAvennie believes the defence will be a key area where improvements will be made:

“I think we will spend, the money is there. The defence is definitely the problem. But the same centre-backs start every week and it’s usually Ralston at right-back. A top-quality left-back would improve us to no end.”

McAvennie highlights left-back as the “problem position” and most supporters would no doubt agree with him. Josip Juranovic has been favoured above the likes of Boli Bolingoli in the role, with Greg Taylor sidelined, so a new addition for the left-hand side seems very likely.

There is also a case to be made for reinforcing the middle of the park. James McCarthy and Tom Rogic’s injury history mean the likes of Callum McGregor and David Turnbull don’t get much rest and it may be an issue that Postecoglou looks to address.
