“Not On My Radar…” Postecoglou Addresses Speculation That Unhappy Celtic Star Is Looking To Leave

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has played down reports that James McCarthy is looking for a move away from the club before the transfer window closes.

Journalist Fraser Fletcher has said that the Republic of Ireland international is “disappointed” about his lack of game time but, when asked about the claims, Postecoglou was rather dismissive:

“Not on my radar, mate. I’m dealing with what’s in front of me. Macca is still training with us. He is part of the squad. So in terms of what is happening beyond that it’s not on my radar.”

McCarthy is unlikely to be happy with his situation at Celtic Park. Despite being available, he didn’t even make the bench for the 2-0 win over Aberdeen last weekend, which suggests he isn’t a key part of the manager’s plans.

Despite Postecoglou’s comments, you would think a departure in the next few weeks is more likely than not, unless the player is suddenly given more minutes on the pitch.

Whether Celtic will be able to get a transfer fee for McCarthy, it is up for debate. He signed a four-year contract after joining on a free transfer last year, but his past injury record means clubs will be hesitant about taking a risk on him.
