Postecoglou Issues Verdict As He Hands PL Linked Celtic Starlet 20 Minute Cameo

Celtic manager Ange Postecgolou says he was happy with Rocco Vata’s performance after the teenager was given twenty minutes as a substitute against Kilmarnock.

It was only the Irish Under 19 international’s third senior appearance for the Hoops but Postecoglou believes the winger acquitted himself well:

“It’s about earning their opportunities. We have people out and Rocco came on and did a good job.”

Vata has impressed for Celtic in the UEFA Youth League, and he was linked with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City earlier this season, in addition to clubs in Italy.

Since then, Postecoglou has handed the 17-year-old his first team debut against Hibernian at the end of last year, and he has also looked impressive for the B team in the Lowland League, racking up nine goals in 16 appearances.

As Postecoglou points out, injuries have meant that Vata has been given more chances to impress, and he has now made appearances in two of Celtic’s last three league games. He will be keen to kick on between now and the end of the campaign.
