“Pretty Close…” Postecoglou Provides New Transfer Update As Celtic Look To Seal Third January Signing

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has strongly hinted that the Scottish champions are closing in on their third signing ahead of the January transfer window.

Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston have already been recruited but, when asked if there were any more potential transfers in the works, Postecoglou replied:

“We’re getting pretty close now. I know Michael (Nicholson) and Chris (McCart) want to spend some time with their families at Christmas. We’re working on things. There are still a couple that we are kind of investigating at the moment. We will see how things transpire over the next week or so. We’re not even into January yet so there is still a bit of time.”

Most news outlets believe that Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors striker Cho Gue-sung is the most likely candidate for the Hoops’ next addition.

The South Korean’s father revealed earlier this month that his son’s agent was “finalising negotiations” with some unnamed teams in Europe.

It is thought that Celtic, Rennes and Fenerbahce are the three favourites to secure Cho’s signature, and Postecoglou’s suggestion that a deal could be “close” has led some to think that the Hoops have won the battle for the 24-year-old.

Whether that is in fact the case, we shall have to wait and see. If they do get three transfers over the line before the start of January, it would be some achievement.
