Sutton Makes Europa Conference League Prediction As He Claims Celtic’s Progress Could Hinge On Key Factor

Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes his former club’s progress in the knockout rounds of the Europa Conference League may be determined by their dealings in the transfer market.

The Hoops have been drawn against Bodo/Glimt, who beat Roma to progress from the group stages of the competition, and Sutton thinks the Norwegian champions will be a difficult test in the playoff.

The BT Sport pundit does, though, expect there will be a number of goals in both legs due to the two teams having an attack-minded style of play:

“It’ll be a tough test for Celtic, no doubt about that. Celtic are improving this season under Ange Postecoglou and with a few signings in January I think Celtic will be in a pretty good place. Bodo/Glimt are a front-foot team and Ange Postecoglou only knows one way to play. He’s more worried about how his team can impose themselves on the opposition.”

“Celtic have had issues defensively in Europe so there will be plenty of goals in this tie. Celtic are improving this season under Ange Postecoglou and with a few signings in January I think Celtic will be in a pretty good place.”

Sutton is bang on with his assessment. Celtic undoubtedly need to add depth if they are to compete on all fronts in the second half of the campaign.

Manager Ange Postecoglou is having to manage a threadbare squad at the moment, and it’s lucky that the Scottish club’s next European game will be in February. It gives them a fair amount of time to bring in more reinforcements.
