Sutton Offers His Theory As To Why Edouard May Well STAY At Celtic

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes the confusion surrounding when or if the Premiership season resumes could work in the Hoops’ favour.

Striker Odsonne Edouard is said to be interesting a number of English Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, but Sutton thinks the Frenchman could stay if there is uncertainty for a long period:

“On one hand the potential extension to the transfer window does initially seem as though it is going to keep exit doors open to players for a lot longer than we might have expected.”

“Yet the other side of the coin is there is a very good chance of utter chaos and confusion clouding the transfer market and making it a whole lot easier just to sit tight for a spell and wait for the summer of 2021.”

“Which, in the case of Edouard, would spell some encouraging news for Celtic fans hoping he hangs around to try to make history when the time eventually comes.”

Edouard is apparently not interested in extending his contract beyond 2022, unless certain conditions are met, which may push Celtic towards a sale.

However, it is very hard to predict when the global pandemic will ease in order for football games to be played once again, or if, as Sutton says, FIFA will allow for transfers to take place in the meantime.

There will be pressure from smaller clubs, in particular, for the window to be reopened. It will allow them to sell off players in order to keep money coming in without revenue from matches, but we shall have to wait and see what unfolds over the coming weeks and months.
